Protect The Rice Pond Wetlands Habitat
Concerned residents are encouraged to attend the Millbury Conservation Commission meeting. Our neighborhood has requested a deeded conservation restriction from the Millbury Board of Appeals to protect the wetland resources of Rice Pond, located behind the houses on the north side of Rice Road, including its feeder brooks and outlets that feed into the Blackstone River watershed. The request should be made to the Millbury Conservation Commission to impose the deeded conservation restrictions on the property. According to the Berlin Conservation Commission, this developer has received multiple stop work orders in Berlin for wetlands violations for their Highland Ridge Condominiums, a Chapter 40B project consisting of 66 duplex condominiums. There is also a recent allegation of the destruction and removal of a beaver dam in Shrewsbury.
Highland Ridge In Berlin Issued Another Stop Work Order
Steven Venincasa is currently developing the Highland Ridge project in Berlin, Massachusetts, under the limited liability corporation named Homes At Highland Ridge, LLC. However, it seems that there are notable issues, as the Berlin Conservation Commission issued a Stop Work Order. The minutes from the Berlin Conservation Commission meeting outline the challenges encountered and the attempts to mitigate the wetlands protection issues caused by the developer and/or their subcontractor(s).
No Build Wetlands Buffer Zone Scheduled
Our neighborhood and concerned residents throughout Millbury who have concerns about the protection and preservation of our wetlands and open space should attend this meeting to let the Millbury Conservation Commission know that there is community interest and support to enact a comprehensive wetlands protection bylaws similar to other forward-thinking communities in Massachusetts.
No Build Wetlands Buffer Zone Delayed
After the publishing of the Wednesday, February 15, 2023, agenda, another neighbor called the Millbury Conservation Commission chairperson, Ronald Steed, who confirmed that he did in fact direct staff to add the “no build wetlands bylaw” to the agenda but did not know why the topic was not on the agenda. Ronald Steed ensured that the “no build wetlands bylaw” would be on the next Millbury Conservation Commission’s agenda following the February 15, 2023, meeting.
